Our August Road Run was in Richard Johnson’s Royal Blue Bristol MW ECW coach EDV505D this replaced the previously advertised, Bedford OBs which would have been provided by Dr.Mike Walker who unfortunately has suffered a recent illness and was unable to attend, (get well soon Mike, from all the group).
The evening was a little overcast but didn’t dull our enthusiasm for one of our favorite visits to Ogmore-by-Sea and Southerndown, with views accross the Bristol Channel though a little misty this year. We set out from Barry Depot at the usual time of 19:00hrs and travelled via the the “Five Mile Lane” to the A48 at Sycamore Cross then westward through Bonvilston, the Cowbridge-by-pass, Crack Hill, Corntown and Ewenny to Ogmore where the high water of a spring tide on the river Ogmore greeted us to a fine scenic spectacle. On reaching Southerndown we stopped in the car park of The Three Golden Cups for our usual refreshment, after a 45 minute stay we made our return to Barry via St. Brides Major, Llantwit Major and St. Athan arriving back at the depot now in darkness just after 22:00 on a cool August night.
