Another month, another trip and another one of our own buses – this time we were taking our newly restored 1965 Caerphilly U.D.C. Massey PD3, (32) GNY432C for its first group trip. A crowd of about 20 set off from Barry depot on a reasonably dry night for this July, although it wasn’t very warm.
Again Paul Burgess was driving, and we headed out from Barry, past the airport, through St Athan and into Llantwit Major, where we parked up at the Bus/railway interchange. Some members headed into the centre for liquid refreshment at the variety of public houses there, while others made use of the numerous hot food takeaways.
The bus performed faultlessly throughout, well driven by Paul, and I think we can look forward to this vehicle being the backbone of the collection for a few years to come. It will be nice to see it “fully liveried” in the next few weeks. (the bus now sports full legal lettering fleet numbers back and front along with “Caerphilly Castle” totem on each side…looks very good too…editor)
