Bus & Coach Wales 2012, Merthyr Rally was another great day with warm and sunny weather and good crowds at our new venue, Merthyr (Rhydycar) Liesure Centre.
Below are a selection of vehicles on display at the rally site with some seen arriving and also taking part in our now traditional free bus trips to The Brecon Mountain Railway again featured in our very popular free-bus trips from the rally site, the visitors could enjoy refreshments and a train ride! It was our second time at the new venue and was again received very well by all, plenty of buses, lorries and classic cars were on display. It was the first long trip for our Cardiff AEC Swift MBO512F and it covered the fifty mile round trip from Barry Depot without a hitch ! (Well done the Swift team, Bob and Graham). We took nine group vehicles in all a good number out of about thirty housed at Barry Depot. Peter Taylor’s RM244, was present again this year, now displaying it’s reinstated registration number VLT244 obtained in a swap with Stagecoach. As usual the South Wales Transport Group were in support bringing along two of their Regent Vs and an NBC liveried VRT a wide selection of various types operated the well patronised free bus trips. Trade was brisk on the many sales stands which all in all made for a great day at the rally.
Cardiff Transport Preservation Group would like to thank all those groups and individual vehicle owners for attending also our sponsors, SixtySixty Coaches, Brecon Mountain Railway, *T**Mobile, R. T. Williams Recovery Specialists and of course Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council for providing the excellent facilities……and of course our members who worked so hard to make the day a success. We hope that all our visitors from Merthyr and further afield enjoyed their day with us.
Below, are a selection of photos taken on the day by members, Mac Winfield and Paul Hamley…..
