This bus is a 1996 Mercedes 711D, with a Plaxton Beaver 27 seat body and was one of seven similar buses delivered new to Rhondda Buses Ltd. The following year, the operator was absorbed by Stagecoach Red & White and this bus still as 164, soon wore the new owners white ‘triple-stripes’ livery, subsequently as 41164, it gained the Stagecoach ‘beach ball’ livery.
This bus was featured in the Welsh TV show High Hopes. The episode centred around a group of teens going to the big city. To get there they traveled on this bus.
This Porth depot based bus operated in the Rhondda Valleys most of its operational life and would have travelled to Cardiff on occasions; for its last few months it operated from Brynmawr depot. At the end of 2010 it was donated to the Cardiff Transport Preservation Group at Barry, by Stagecoach in South Wales, who also in 2016, kindly repainted this bus into its original livery.
