Our Leyland Tiger CUH856 displays the number KHY392 on the temporary radiator fitted. Progress on the rebuild has been slow due to a number of time critical lottery backed jobs, it is hoped that progress will now be speeded up and that completion will be achieved during 2008. The above pictures were taken on the 14th March 2008. (photos by Mac Winfield). |

Cardiff Bus News ! The final running day of the Cardiff Volvo Ailsa buses took place on Saturday 15th December between 0900 and 1700hrs. Two vehicles were in use covering various routes within the city as a tribute to Cardiff's longest ever serving double deckers. All proceeds from the event were donated to the current charity supported by Cardiff Bus. We are sure that all those enthusiasts and others who took part enjoyed this celebration. A brief report and photos of the event can be viewed by clicking the link above. For a brief history of the Cardiff Ailsa buses go to http://www.cardiffbus.com/company/fleet/AilsaFarwell.htm |

889AAX ex Jones Aberbeeg Tiger Cub acquired jointly by the CTPG and member, Revd Patrick Coleman on 30/6/07. This rare OPSUC1/3T Weymann bodied Cub was originally built as one of 12 for export to Trinidad. Ordered by Arimas Bus Service it was left on Southampton docks along with two others when the order was cancelled partway through delivery, it was later acquired with the other two by Jones Aberbeeg and was registered 889AAX in March '61. It has been in preservation some years and has been a regular visitor to rallies in South Wales over the last few years so when its' former owners, Roger and Sue Wortley decided to sell, it was seen as ideal for our South East Wales group's collection as it can now continue its' association with the South Wales rally circuit. |
1958 Longwell Green bodied Guy Arab IV XNY416 ex Aberdare Urban District Council, later Cynon Valley District Council number 14. This bus was recently purchased by the group and was transported back to South Wales on 29/7/07. |

News Release from CTPG 1/1/07 Seen above, Newport Transport, Alexander Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 68 EDW68D has been donated to Cardiff Transport Preservation Group by former owner Robert Noakes. Robert has owned this bus for more than 15 years and has spent a great deal of time and money on a fine restoration job which he has carried out himself on the vehicle while it has been stored a Newport Transport's Corporation Road depot. It just needs the laying of the lower deck treadmaster and refitting of the seats to complete. Due to various factors not least of which is the imminent move of all the stored preserved buses from the depot at Newport, Robert has decided to pass this superb bus on to the CTPG for completion display and use at rallies and festivals. We are pleased and very thankful to Robert for this very kind gesture and wish him well for the future. Mac Winfield on behalf of the whole group. |

News Release from CTPG 8/10/06 Cardiff Guy Arab V open-topper ABO434B has been donated to Cardiff Transport Preservation Group by The National Museum of Wales. After lengthy negotiations the museum has de-accessioned 434 from its' collection and has donated this very interesting vehicle to us. Delivered new to City of Cardiff Transport in 1964, one of a batch of 12, twenty seven foot long Guy Arabs bodied by Neepsend Coachworks of Sheffield, seating 65 passengers. Entering service from Sloper Rd Depot during late '64, early '65. The bus joined a fleet of East Lancs bodied Guys, Daimlers, Leylands and AECs nearly all of which were bodied by East Lancs Coachbuilders of Blackburn of which, Neepsend was part. This will become the only active Cardiff Guy bus of a fleet of 96, which once plied the streets of the Welsh capital. During 1976 after suffering slight damage to its' front roof dome it was decided to convert this vehicle to open top layout instead of the originally chosen 422, which along with 424 were set to revive the Cardiff City Tours once operated by closed top buses, but which ceased operation during the early part of the 1960s. It is planned to display this vehicle at local rallies and use it in conjunction with Barry Island Railway events. |

News Release from CTPG 22/9/06 The Cardiff Transport Preservation Group is pleased to announce that negotiations are well underway with the Vale of Glamorgan Council for a lease on the old Western Welsh bus depot in Broad Street, Barry, South Wales. The CTPG, together with another group, have received the approval of the Executive Committee of the Vale of Glamorgan County Council to use the purpose built bus garage for storage and restoration of classic buses and coaches from around the South Wales area, subject to the resolution of various issues with the council's officers. The building will be brought up to standard by the group with the assistance of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, with a view to eventually allowing public access to the exhibits, and possible operation of a small fleet of vehicles to be used in conjunction with open days and other events on the Barry Island Railway, along with the annual Barry Transport Festival, normally held during the month of June. Our group now needs to work hard toward this exciting objective and is, as always, looking for volunteers from the membership and other interested individuals in making this opportunity a success for all. It is hoped that individuals and groups who own and run preserved buses and coaches will join us at Barry where they will enjoy covered accommodation and have access to workshop facilities for their vehicle restoration needs. We now look forward to the future with the prospect of a transport heritage centre right here on our doorstep in South Wales. Anyone wishing to help in this project is welcome to contact us through our website email ctpg info or by letter to: The Secretary, Cardiff Transport Preservation Group, 24, Heol y Coed, Beddau, Pontypridd, South Wales. Saturday 16 September saw ex Cardiff Daimler Fleetline 532 removed from the bank at the back of our recently vacated Wenvoe site, in readiness for a tow trip to storage at Lydney prior to a slot being found for the work required to make it run again. Although looking somewhat disheveled the body is quite sound with just a couple of window pans, front lower panels and restoration of the centre folding doors required. These items have been obtained along with a Gardner 6LX power unit and Daimler 4-speed epicyclic gearbox from our ex West Midlands PTE Fleetline which we are breaking for spares. |

Saturday 22 July 2006 At long last ex Red & White Leyland Tiger PS1 S.1449 EU9722 has been moved from the driveway of a house in Chepstow to a new secure location in preparation for a full rebuild to operating condition. This bus was new to Griffin, Brynmawr in 1949 but passed to Red & White Services Ltd at the takeover of that concern. Withdrawn by Red & White in the early 1960s the bus was then used by the Rhondda branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society before entering preservation in the mid 1970s. The bus was restored and rallied by Rob Edworthy and associates until sale in 1978. Since that date the bus has been parked-up in Chepstow. Time has taken it's toll on the wooden framed vehicle and nothing short of a full rebuild will see it run in public again, we hope in time to complete this task and once more exhibit the vehicle publicly. Thanks go to Group members' Nicky Reason, Lyndon Rees and John Woodward for the acquisition of this vehicle. |

Another Bus joins our preserved fleet It is with great delight that we can now officially announce the purchase of ex-Caerphilly Urban District Council 32 GNY432C from Green Bus Services new in 1965 one of three low-bridge 68 seat Massey bodied PD3/4s delivered that year in the traditional CUDC livery of Mid-Brunswick Green and Ivory in which livery this bus is to be preserved. High capacity low-bridge double deck buses had become the norm for this Welsh Valley undertaking with the main task of operating the long distance stage carriage route from Cardiff to Tredegar via Caerphilly and Blackwood, on which route it served until the arrival of Caerphilly's first Atlanteans in 1973. |
