Festival of Transport takes off at Hood Road and Broad Street Depot JANE
HUTT Assembly Member for the PRESS RELEASEJune 2010 Barry Festival of Transport takes off at Hood Road and Broad Street Depot Vale AM, Jane Hutt, enjoyed the Barry Festival of Transport, viewing the vintage buses and admiring the work undertaken by so many volunteers at the Broad Street Depot to bring the rich heritage of Bus transport in South Wales into the public eye. The visitor numbers were excellent as they enjoyed free bus rides to the main sites, the Memorial Hall and Barry Island. Jane Hutt congratulated the Cardiff Transport Preservation Group for their enthusiasm and their organisation for this great event for Barry which drew in the crowds and kept the rain away! She was particularly pleased to meet Viv Corbin and Chris Taylor who have published 'The Motor Bus Operators of Barry before 1945' as a result of extensive research and she recommends their book to local people who will be fascinated by the accounts of the growth of public transport in Barry. Jane Hutt, said. "Viv Corbin and Chris Taylor have produced an excellent account of the growth of motor bus operators of Barry before 1945 with photos of early buses, their drivers, passengers and accounts of the routes used in those days. I am proud that the Welsh Assembly Government has helped to boost the use of buses with our concessionary fares scheme, but this history of bus transport in Barry gives a clear picture of its importance in the last century and the Barry Festival of Transport is now a key event in the Barry town calendar."
