PRESS RELEASE RE:
BRISTOL HARBOURSIDE BUS RALLY & RUNNING DAY 2012
BRTC regret to announce the cancellation of the
annual Bristol Harbourside Rally & Bus Running Day for 2012.
Our rally is normally set for the 3rd
Sunday in May to avoid clashing with other events, both transport related and
otherwise, which could prevent our loyal supporters from attending Harbourside.
This year, the staging of the 2012 Olympics in late
July/early August has had an impact on local events, including the Bristol 10k
Road Race which has been moved to the date when we would normally hold our
event. In addition, the Olympic torch
is scheduled to pass through the Bristol area the week before, thus rendering
our usual site unavailable.
Bristol City Council, who owns the site we use, have
advised BRTC that the only date available would be June 10th 2012. This date is unacceptable to us as there are
other bus related events held on that day, notably the rally held at Barry in
South Wales who traditionally hold their rally around this date.
BRTC feel that to hold our event on the same day
would dilute both events and place
our supporters in an awkward position regarding which event to attend. We also do not want to undermine an event
staged by one of our most loyal supporters.
The committee have therefore decided that, as there is
no other practical alternative venue to stage our event on its usual date, we
will cancel the Bristol Harbourside Bus Rally & Running Day this year.
We regret any disappointment and inconvenience caused,
but trust that you will understand why we have taken this difficult decision.

any case there is always next year!
